4 Simple Tips to Save Water on Your Lawn
Lawn watering season is here. But are you one of those people that is using too much water to keep your lawn green? There is such a thing as using too much water, so let's go over a few tips you can use to keep your lawn green and use less water.
#1 - Fix Broken Sprinklers
We've all seen them before: someone has a broken sprinkler head and now has a 30 foot fountain in their front lawn. This is a very simple thing to fix and can help save you from wasting a ton of water. Try and fix broken sprinkler heads as soon as you can to avoid wasting water.
#2 -Morning Watering
There is definitely an optimal time to water your lawn. That time is in the morning between the hours of 5 and 10 am. If you water your lawn in the afternoon you're going to lose too much water to evaporation. If you water at night or in the evening your lawn will stay wet longer and you'll have fungus problems. So it's always best to water in the morning.
#3 - Infrequent Watering
If you want to have a stronger lawn you need to water infrequently. If you water all of the time on a set schedule your lawn will develop a shallow root system. Instead, water infrequently to give the grass a chance to grow stronger roots.
#4 - Don't Water When it's Raining
How many times have you seen someone watering their lawn when it's raining? Talk about wasting water! If it rains consider that your lawn watering for the week. Don't worry about your regular schedule, just let the rain do what it's going to do.
