A Child's Own Space
Children enjoy best when they are playing with friends and siblings. For them, the more the merrier. But just like anybody, even the most sociable kid values personal space to tinker with a toy, read a storybook, draw or just play on his own.
Many parents feel that even if they have the room for separate bedrooms it is better for young children to share a room. This is often because they feel the children are not mature enough to sleep in a room by themselves. If indeed you have made this decision I urge you to consider the following plan to help your children develop independence and give them their own personal space.
If you have a spare room, turn this space into a playroom. Not only will this free more space in the children's bedroom but also provide more legroom for the kids to horse around and more storage for their toys. A playroom becomes a designated leisure area where children will learn how to interact with others, especially with friends around even if they experience their own space.
The bedroom can be transformed into each child's own even if one is sharing a room with a sibling/s. This is by dividing the room with a curtain, screen or a piece of furniture. This is also applicable if there's no extra room to make into a playroom. You can allot a space as the play area.
Decorating the children's bedroom is of course essential to make it appealing to the kids. Pick a neutral wall color and then personalize each of the children's space. They can still have their favorite color in the divider, decorations and beddings. With a neutral color for the room, accenting it with different shades will still look okay.
Another example is area rug. With the variety in shapes, color and design, every child's request can be granted. Different themes are available from the generic alphabets, numbers and animals to the specific designs made for boys or girls.
The bedroom should be a comfortable and fun place for the kids to stay in. Without sacrificing their need for alone time once in a while, they still get to comfortably play and have fun with their sibling and friends.
