Amethyst, a gem which represents healing and remaining calm under stress, has been used as far back as ancient Egypt where it was often engraved with some symbol or portrait. It has continued to be used throughout the ages and many stories include the Amethyst Necklace as a fascinating and important part of society.

Amethyst is one of the only gemstones that gives the color purple in so many different hues, from a rosey pastel to a deep purple color. As many people know, purple is considered the color of royalty; a fact which has not been lost on the hierarchy through the ages.

Aside from royalty, religious leaders have also found amethyst to be a proper indication of their status in society. In fact, the Catholic church used amethyst as their "Papal" stone, which they used to decorate their churches. Since amethyst, from ancient times to today, has been seen as a stone that encourages wisdom, moderation, and celibacy, priests in the Catholic religion still wear amethyst rings to this day.

This stone is found in many parts of the word, from places like the United States, Canada, India, Russia, Brazil, and Sri Lanka, and as it is such a hard stone that it can last and be passed down from generation to generation. They do, however, need care to keep their luster, as activities like washing your hands or working on a project can cause a build up of dirt and oil. It should also be noted that the rich and wonderful color of this stone needs to be protected from sun rays, as this can fade the color.

Amethyst has been used throughout the ages to keep people from getting drunk - to this day, amethyst is considered a protection against poison. What's more, Amethyst Jewelry can be worn any day of the week - wear it up, wear it down, wear it to a special event, or just going to class. That's the beauty of amethyst jewelry.
