Living in a healthy atmosphere is one of the most important qualities needed for a balanced lifestyle. Cleaning methods are numerous but some among them have proved their merit time and again and one such cleaning technology is Pressure cleaning.

Pressure cleaning can be defined as a technique where water or steam are focused on a surface or any material that requires to be cleaned. Water or steam is let out to the surface from a mechanical device known as a pressure cleaner. The high pressure used in this method is responsible for the cleaning action. For cleansing purposes even chemicals can be used along with the water.

There are different kinds of pressure cleaners- petrol, electric diesel, gas and ultra high pressure. A pressure cleaner basically comprises a motor which is used for driving the pump, a hose and a gun trigger. A gas pressure cleaner is used for industrial purposes and electric pressure cleaners are mostly used for domestic needs.

Pressure cleaners are multi-purpose devices that can be used in a multitude of places. From cleaning roofs, driveways, automobiles and graffiti to being used in the aviation industry to help the runways trips maintain friction their uses are many and varied. Places of historic interest that have given away to time can be refurbished and renovated using this technique.

The intensity of pressure used for the operation is used as the criterion to define different types of pressure cleaning. When water pressure is less than 5000 psi(pound per square inch) it is called as low pressure water cleaning, for pressures between 5000-10,000 psi it is known as high pressure water cleaning, pressures between 10,000-25,000 psi it is called as high pressure water jetting and for pressures greater than 25,000 it is called ultra high water pressure jetting. Gallons per minute which denotes the possible area that can be covered is also another criterion for choosing the right kind of pressure cleaner.

Like any process, there are certain constraints to be considered in this process. Spray distance, angle of spray, nozzle pressure and the rate at which water flows play an important role in deciding the efficiency of the process and hence they have to be chosen carefully. The choices are many, in the case of nozzles one can chose from a wide variety the most typical choices being the solid jet, rotating flat jet and rotating solid jet with the rotating solid jet standing out because of its remarkable efficiency. The spray angle can also be chosen from a zero to forty degree range depending on the purpose.

Cold water is not all that preferred as it can cover only a limited area in a longer duration of time as compared to hot water which is far more effective. In a slightly different way of pressure cleaning, when using steam instead of water, water at very high temperature at about 140-15 degree centigrade is released over the surface to be cleaned, thus resulting in the removal of any contamination present on the surface. The sheer pressure of water is enough to cause severe damage to anyone who experiences its force and as such several precautions have to be taken while dealing with pressure cleaners.

With technology advancing at such a fast rate, it is safe to say that many enhancements and improvements in this technique are yet to come. Several elements that affect pressure cleaning like nozzle radius, speed and the design of the system are being studied to optimize them further.

Thus, pressure cleaning has become one of the most popular ways to clean materials, the reasons being that it works very efficiently, saves a lot of water as compared to just a garden hose, is very cost-effective and most importantly at a time when preserving the environment is of the utmost importance, t is environment-friendly as it uses less water and chemicals. With all such advantages pressure cleaning is definitely going to witness better and much more improved features in the coming future.
