Martinsville Win For Denny Hamlin
Denny took home his 4th career Martinsville win for his first win in the Chase of 2010. Denny Hamlin is now only 6 points behind points leader Jimmie Johnson in the race for the Nascar Sprint Cup.
Denny had a set of goals in mind for the weekend; win the pole, lead every lap, and win the race. Denny went on to win the pole, and the race but didn't lead the most laps due to tire problems earlier in the race.
Denny started the race on the pole and led the first 10 laps. Unfortunately Denny would fall far from the lead after the LR tire started having problems. Mike Ford commented that the LR tire had much more build up the anticipated over the LF, which in turn took away all Denny's stagger and made the car extremely tight.
Denny and his pit crew worked hard to get the FedEx Toyota back up to the front by lap 300. Denny was able to capitalize on a long green flag run that they had been waiting for.
Denny was saving his equipment from the 3rd positions while Harvick and Burton abused their equipment. With 30 to go Denny started to close in on Harvick and Bowyer who were quickly fading. Denny quickly passed race leader Kevin Harvick and won the race.
It looked like Nascar wanted to help their TV ratings and close up the points battle. Towards the end of the race there were multiple incidents where drivers blew tire and so on. Nascar did not throw a caution. A caution would have meant that Denny's win chances were in trouble as he was better on the long run. It looks as if Nascar was on Denny's side today.
Denny captured his 15th career win in this amazing race.
