The Traditional Style

The traditional aesthetic is a classic style that, if pulled off right can impart any room with a look that is expensive-looking and elegant. Done well, traditional decor can be both attractive and cozy, striking that ideal balance for any room. It's a style that innovates or surprises or innovates little, and is more concerned with balance and the overall look. All in all, it's a very versatile look that can work with just about any kind of home or ambiance.

Traditional style is a style that you will use mostly neutral colors in, and one that calls for very little surprise. You don't need to change the paint in the room; you can always opt for a nice looking wallpaper to change the room into a more traditional look. When you go to choose a design try to stick with a look that says traditional. Being said you should have either small floral patterns, or even some sort of geometric shapes.

When you go to pick out what kind of furniture you want in the room, you will need to stick with a specific kind. Look for either a more antique looking European look or a nice Victorian design would work too. You don't need to buy the real thing though; many companies will make great looking reproductions that will cost you a lot less. The wood should be dark and the material of the chair should be a darker color too.

Adding in some crown moldings to the room is a great way to bring in the traditional look. Make sure these crown moldings are white though and you don't have to buy the ceramic ones, they come in some great looking wood ones that you simply paint white.

Arranging the furniture in a traditionally designed space is a fairly straightforward task. Put pieces together in groups of two or three, always preserving some sort of symmetry around a central object or axis. Traditionally designed rooms also often have a focal point like a fireplace or a big table, around which most of the furniture is arranged. You could find one in the space you're decorating and then use it as a basis for the position of all your pieces.

With the traditional look most flooring will be hardwood. Here is where you can make sure to add a nice little splash to the room by buying a nice area rug. Don't get a color that is too far off the colors in the room, but it will add some great warmth into the room too.

Traditionally designed spaces have had several vogue periods in the past, and are now considered a classic look. It's perfect if you want a versatile, all-occasion style with a bit of vintage Americana aesthetic. Traditional rooms are great especially for receiving areas because they never fade out of style and preserve their natural elegance. And with the right touches, that sophistication need not sacrifice comfort.
